Captain Jo...。原作は斎藤惇夫の『冒険者たち～ガンバと十五匹の仲間』。言わば名作児童文学作品だが、チーフディレクター出崎統によって、他社の名作路線とは一線を画する味わいの仕上がりになっている。 出崎監督は以後『家なき子』（77年）『宝島』（78年）と児童名作作品を続けざまに手掛けるが、３作品共通して描かれるのは少年の旅と成長であり、演出も硬派、スピーディ、スリリングなものだった。『ガンバ』はその第一作に位置する作品である。 アニメ化にあたっては、メインキャラクターを７匹に絞るとともに、オリジナルエピソードを多量に挿入している（第３話から第17話まではアニメのオリジナル）。これによって、ノロイとの戦いが中心だった原作と比べ、ガンバたちの冒険の旅が存分に描かれ、キャラクターの魅力も最大限に描き切ることができた。 作画監督は椛島義夫、各話演出は出崎氏の他に御厨恭輔、竹内啓...。Sarah Jayne Reynolds has been the most difficult case that the witness protection program has ever faced - she can't lie.。
