辛亥革命胜利之后的民国初年，江南才女沈碧云为了实现进入中国最大的私人藏书楼博览群书、为所有学子争取读书的权利的理想，也为了探查杀父仇人，不惜以终生幸福为赌注，嫁入藏书楼之主的宣家，却由此陷入宣家内部的勾心斗角、争权夺利漩涡，遭遇重重危机，尝尽人情冷暖，几度出生入死，宣家也经历了一次次浩劫，直至家破人亡，碧云仍然矢志不渝，在宣家四少爷宣孝季和进步青年吴时的帮助下，凭着坚强的信念和过人的智慧拯救了宣家，成为宣家新当家人，并查清真凶，报得父仇。最终，沈碧云冲破封建祖制开放书楼，包括碧云在内的莘莘学子得以登楼读书。。Malvís (Alfredo Landa) is sick of working like crazy for nothing.
