Distinguished constitutional historian David Starkey looks at the origins of the Great Chart...。公元1840年鸦片战争以后，不堪忍受清朝残酷压榨和外国侵略的各地中国人民，纷纷起来英勇抗争。其中以洪香全为首的"天帝会"势力最大。其于1851年在广西金田村起义，定国号为"太平天国"。 义军起义后的两年就席卷长江，截断了清朝的漕运，攻下南京.太平天国定都于此改称天京。清朝启用汉族名家曾国藩编练的湘军以击太平天国，无奈前后湘军均大败。曾国藩自杀。太平天国同时也把略者打得一败再败，不敢见仗。然而偏安东南，孤军北伐，天京事变，使得太平天国大好形势骤然跌入谷底。 东王杨秀清日益骄纵，觊觎天王宝座，北王韦昌辉借力杀人|而洪秀全也私心颇重，使得北王杀骨干两万余人|翼王石达开被迫带兵分道扬镳，牺牲在大渡河畔.此后，虽然有陈玉成，李秀成的艰苦奋斗，但至终敌不住中外统治者疯狂进攻，1864年洪秀全病逝，太平天国也随之瓦解…..。
