梁秀琴17岁时，随⽗亲梁铁林到齐齐哈尔市的扎龙⾃然保护区做临时⼯，负责养鹤、驯鹤⼯作。1983年，她在那⾥负责饲养雏鹤，雏鹤成活率达到100%。因此，扎龙保护区的孵鹤、养鹤、驯鹤技术开始蜚声中外。梁秀琴后来又去盐城⾃然保护区⼯作，当时的鹤场，最好的建筑物就是⼀个废弃的哨所，上下两层，每层不足6平方米。在这⾥，她认识了⼀起并肩⼯作的同志：王君彦、段⽅和夏兰，梁秀琴也和王君彦有了⼀些朦胧的感情。还没等他们的感情有些进展，梁秀琴就因为救⼀只受伤的鹤永远地离开了这个世界——那时，梁秀琴才23岁。。After a global catastrophe, the last man on Earth finds himself questioning his purpose and sanity as both his deceased wife and a mysterious stranger confront him with his past, his present, and whatever future might remain in the wastes of a dead world.
