该剧根据《格林童话》中的原型人物和故事改编，剧中的故事和角色大多出自书中的角色。 Nick Burkhardt（大卫·君图力 David Giuntoli 饰）本来只是波特兰警局一名警察，在知道自己是“格林”一族的后裔后命运完全改变。除了履行警察职责，Nick还必须狩猎童话中的那些怪物。同时因为“格林”的特殊身份结识了很多善良的“格林”生物并成为他们的朋友。一些野兽和动物化作人形隐藏在人类社会中，它们正策划对人类。而了解到自己背负的责任后，Nick决心不惜一切代价保护人类。。专偷皮鞋的女扒手Tina发现自己出人意料地被释放后，拜访了预审法官的公寓。法官Carole Rewinsky 并没有告诉Tina她的假释只是出于程序上的错误。她们发现除了司法系统以外他们还有许多共同兴趣，比如说对鞋的共同兴趣。Carole允许Tina在她家的沙发椅上留宿……。Ed Hutcheson, tough editor of the New York 'Day', finds that the late owner's heirs are selling the crusading paper to a strictly commercial rival.
